ICD-10 Date Update The federal government confirmed Wednesday that the compliance timeline for the ICD-10 implementation (originally set for October 1, 2013) will change. The changes will be made during a formal rulemaking process that has yet to be announced. “We have heard from many in the provider community who have concerns about the administrative burdens they face in the years ahead,” Sebelius said in the release. “We are committing to work through the rulemaking process, with the provider community, to reexamine the pace at which HHS and the nation implement these important improvements to our healthcare system.” Modern Healthcare The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), urges healthcare organizations to continue preparing for the ICD-10 implementation. Dan Rode, MBA, CHPS, FHFMA, vice president for advocacy and policy at AHIMA said, “This is a promise from CMS to examine the timeline, not to change it…” Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen G. Sebelius stated, “ICD-10 codes are important to many positive improvements in our health care system. We have heard from many in the provider community who have concerns about the administrative burdens they face in the years ahead. We are committing to work through the rulemaking process, with the provider community, to reexamine the pace at which HHS and the nation implement these important improvements to our health care system.” Previous Next
